@X086@X05.@X0811 @X03 BASIC ROCKET BOMB
@X08A rocket bomb is simply what the name implies@X05:@X08 a bomb that is delivered
to its target by means of a rocket@X05.@X08 Most people who would make such a device
would use a model rocket engine to power the device@X05.@X08 By cutting fins from balsa
wood and gluing them to a large rocket engine@X05,@X08 such as the Estes @X05"@X08C@X05"@X08 engine@X05,@X08 a
basic rocket could be constructed@X05.@X08 Then@X05,@X08 by attaching a @X05"@X08crater maker@X05",@X08 or CO2
cartridge bomb to the rocket@X05, @X08a bomb would be added@X05.@X08 To insure that the fuse of
the @X05"@X08crater maker@X05"@X05 (@X08see sect@X05.@X08 4@X05.@X0842@X05)@X08 ignited@X05,@X08 the clay over the ejection charge
of the engine should be scraped off with a plastic tool@X05.@X08 The fuse of the bomb
should be touching the ejection charge@X05,@X08 as shown below@X05.

@X08ejection charge@X03>@X05 ::::
@X08Duct tape is the best way to attach the crater maker to the rocket
engine@X05.@X08 Note in the diagram the absence of the clay over the ejection charge
Many different types of explosive payloads can be attached to the rocket@X05,@X08 such as
a high explosive@X05,@X08 an incendiary device@X05,@X08 or a chemical fire bottle@X05.
@X08Either four or three fins must be glued to the rocket engine to insure
that the rocket flies straight@X05.@X08 The fins should look like this@X05:

@X08The leading edge and trailing edge should be sanded with sandpaper so
that they are rounded@X05.@X08 This will help make the rocket fly straight@X05.@X08 A two
inch long section of a plastic straw can be attached to the rocket to launch it
from@X05.@X08 A clothes hanger can be cut and made into a launch rod@X05.@X08 The segment of
a plastic straw should be glued to the rocket engine adjacent to one of the fins
of the rocket@X05.@X08 A front view of a completed rocket bomb is shown below@X05.

@X08By cutting a coat hanger at the indicated arrows@X05,@X08 and bending it@X05,@X08 a
launch rod can be made@X05.@X08 After a fuse is inserted in the engine@X05,@X08 the rocket is
simply slid down the launch rod@X05,@X08 which is put through the segment of plastic
straw@X05.@X08 The rocket should slide easily along the coathanger@X05.@X08
